The next movie in the Pushpa series is called “Pushpa 2: The Rule.” It’s an action-packed drama in Telugu, a language spoken in India. Sukumar is both the director and writer, and the movie is made by Sukumar Writings. Naveen Yerneni and Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar from Mythri Movie Makers are producing it. Production
Development
Before “Pushpa: The Rise” came out in 2021, they said they would release it in two parts. They planned to bring out the first part in that year and the second part the next year, 2022. At first, they shot about 10% of the second part alongside the first. But then, Sukumar, the director, decided to change the story of the second part to meet what the audience wanted and fix any mistakes from the first film.
They officially named the second part “Pushpa 2: The Rule” on August 22, 2022. On the same day in Hyderabad, they had a special ceremony called muhurat puja with the cast and crew.
Sukumar wrote the script for the film, and Srikanth Vissa helped with the dialogues. Most of the people who worked on the first part, like the cinematographer Miroslaw Kuba Brozek, editor Karthika Srinivas and Ruben, art director S. Ramakrishna and Monica Nigotre, and sound designer Resul Pookutty and Vijay Kumar, stayed on for the second part. Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma took care of the costumes, and Preeti Sheel Singh was the character designer. Peter Hein, Kecha Kamphakdee, Dragon Prakash, and Nabakanta handled the stunts. The dance choreographers for the film were Prem Rakshith, Ganesh Acharya, Vijay Polaki, and Shrashti Verma.
Casting
In the sequel, many of the actors from the first part like Allu Arjun, Fahadh Faasil, Rashmika Mandanna, Dhananjaya, Rao Ramesh, Sunil, Anasuya Bharadwaj, and Ajay Ghosh are back, reprising their roles. Also, Jagapathi Babu joined the cast for an important part in April 2023. There were talks about Sreeleela being offered an item song, but she turned it down. Later, it was said that Disha Patani was brought on board for a special song.
Filming
Starting with a practice run on October 30, 2022, in Hyderabad, the main photography for the movie began. Then, in January 2023, they filmed an exciting action scene in Visakhapatnam. April 2023 saw them shooting some scenes in the forests of Malkangiri district, Odisha.
They added Jagapathi Babu to the cast in April 2023. Fahad Faasil joined the team in May 2023, followed by Rashmika in June 2023.
Unfortunately, on June 3, 2023, a bus carrying crew members had an accident near the Vijayawada-Hyderabad Expressway.
In August 2023, they filmed some scenes at Ramoji Film City. The shooting resumed in Hyderabad in November 2023 after a break.
However, in December 2023, filming had to be put on hold due to Allu Arjun’s health issues.
In March 2024, they shot some scenes in Vizag and Yaganti Temple. There’s a report saying the filmmakers spent ₹60 crore on a 6-minute sequence, which included the Gangamma Jatara performance and a fight scene.
Finally, in April 2024, they filmed a huge underwater sequence in Hyderabad.
